Great to Be Eight: Logan Utah Photography

This handsome man is preparing to turn eight and boy was he excited for his birthday milestone session. We did his session at the beautiful Logan, Utah temple grounds.

It was a bit chilly, but given we were doing his session in February, it was much warmer than it often is this time of year. Kade did great, smiling at all the right moments.

My favorite part of his session was how excited he would get about some of his own ideas for poses to use. Little boys do so well at photo sessions when they are given the freedom to help direct things. Sure, sometimes their shot ideas are silly and may not be used as the main photo mom or dad is hoping to get from the session, but these self-directed images are so fun! I love how they show off a unique personality, different from anyone else.

Happy birthday (soon) Kade. I hope it's a great one!

Courtland Family: Logan, Utah Family Photographer

This beautiful family of five received a gifted family session to celebrate their cute twin's birthday. Photo by Memories gift certificates make such great gift ideas (if I say so myself!) especially for fun milestone birthdays.

When they were ready to use the gift, we got in touch and talked through styles and locations. They wanted fun, free-style images that captured their beautiful family in all their natural charm. I adore capturing candid shots like these because of the special connection they capture.

The best part was watching these little two twins with their unique personalities.

Jessi Baptism: Logan, Utah Photographer

This beautiful miss turned 8 last month and is looking forward to a baptism next month. We were able to take advantage of the time in between to get some beautiful, winter baptism images at the Logan Temple.

Getting winter images can be beautiful, but as you guessed, it can also be cold. Here are some of the secrets we used during this session to get beautiful images, without freezing this little miss!

First off, we watched the weather. The week before this shoot was terribly cold! (So was the week after) Since taking pictures at 8 degrees didn't sound appealing, we waited until a storm came, in and warmed things up. Watching the weather is a must for winter shoots!

Second, we schedule a quick session. Bitty photo sessions are a great option for getting beautiful images quickly, and they are inexpensive. By scheduling a quick session we kept to the most important shots and were able to get lots of beautiful images to choose from.

Third, I had mom bring a warm fleece blanket that was large enough to fully wrap up in. In between shots, and during test shots, this blanket stayed on, only coming off long enough to get the needed shots before we immediately put it back on. A warm blanket that doesn't interfere with hair or clothes works best.

Winters in Cache Valley are beautiful, and often cold. These few tips are so helpful in getting beautiful photos year round.

Newman Extended Family: Logan, Utah Photographer

Tasha's family has been a part of my life for so long. As friends for almost 2 decades, we've been through quiet a lot. I still remember her home phone number! Who does that?!

So, it goes without saying that I enjoyed spending time with this crazy fun bunch. The evening worked out well. It started out cloudy, then became rainy and sunny simultaneously (Tasha called it a sun shower) and then ended just plain sunny and clear and beautiful. With some enormous beautiful pines to keep us covered despite the crazy weather, we were set!

So were the smiles. Especially when we pulled out a silly stuffed money for the littlest. Combine that with some silly antics from the uncles and we were all laughing.

Thanks Newman family for letting me capture the personalities that I adore!
