Lybbert Family: Logan, Utah Family Photographer

Lybbert Family Session: Logan, Utah Family Photographer

Some of the families I get to work with as a family and child photographer are just the best. This fun extended family is definitely the cream of the crop! Extended family pictures are always crazy fun. For my clients, they can often be a cause of stress though, which is tragic, because what's better than getting beautiful images of all the awesome people in your life?

So, let's review a few ideas to ensure that your extended family shoot is as awesome as it can be!

1. Focus on a loved one.

The hardest part of extended family all getting together? Differences of opinion. Start your shoot out right by resolving these differences long before the shoot. You can always vote on things like location and colors, but focusing on a loved one, I have found is a great way to ensure the final decision is accepted.

Maybe it's grandma, maybe it's an Aunt who is sick, or a family that is visiting from a long way away. Turn decisions into a way for family members to show support or love and suddenly differences of opinion just vanish. If everyone loves mom and knows that she's chosen to have pictures done at the beach, their love can help them have a good time, even if they don't even like the beach! They are focused on making someone else they adore happy!

2. Make it simple.

The easier the whole process is for getting family pictures taken, the better! Make it simple by picking a location that is convenient over one that is exotic. Pick a time that will suite the needs of family with young children, or older family members. Choose clothing options that leave room for a bit of personal expression and utilize items that family likely already owns. Keep the drama to an absolute minimum and you'll see lots of happy smiles. Best of all- choose a photographer who knows how to get beautiful images without spending too much time. The longer your family shoot goes, the harder it will be to keep it simple and happy.

3. Bribe 'em with a goody.

Extended shoots are all about family, so why not plan a fun activity for after the shoot. Get pictures done quickly, and head on out to have more fun. If you bring goodies for little smiles during the shoot, bring items like smarties that won't make a sticky mess.

With luck and a bit of preparation, extended family photos can turn out great!

Baby Alassandra: Logan Newborn Photographer

Baby Alassandra was only 1 week old for her newborn session. Working with little babies requires patience, as sometimes they need a minute to get sleepy. Picking the right newborn photographer, who has patience and lots of experience, is key!

Baby A was like this, she needed a bit more feeding before she sunk off into dream-land and we were able to get some amazing images for her parents.

Sometimes, I actually love it when little ones take a minute to fall asleep- it just means I get to cuddle and rock them longer until they are ready for picture time! Especially when they are so beautiful like this little miss!

Baby Eric: Logan, Utah Child Photographer

It seems like just last week that this little Mr. was in for his newborn session. Now at 5 months old, he is so big! He has so many fun facial expressions and was an absolute joy to work with for this session we did to show off his cute blessing outfit.

At 5 months old, he is close, but not quiet sitting up unassisted, so we used a boppy to help prop him up and get some sitting shots. My favorite shots were from above, he just loved playing peek-a-boo with me from around the camera. We were both giggling!!

At the end of his session, his awesome mom and I played around with a couple different props, because, you know, we couldn't get enough of this cuteness!!

Baby Myla: Logan, Utah Photographer

Baby Myla's mom called me last week, so excited for her newborn session. As we talked about what they wanted in their session, she made a special request- to include photos of little miss Myla Mae on a beautiful saddle that they were bringing. They wanted to incorporate cream, brown, and red with the saddle, and to have pink and grey for their alternate set-up.

Little did I know, when putting together these beautiful colors and set-ups for their newborn session that Myla was going to be such a joy to work with!

When they came in studio, Myla was wide-eyed and beautifully awake. Many babies are when we get started! Once wrapped up tight in her little pink wrap, she started getting sleepy. Within five minutes of shushing, she was sound asleep and ready for an absolutely beautiful newborn session, with perfect newborn pictures of smiles, and all her little, perfect features.

Myla was a joy to work with- as a mother of two girls, I always love my little girl newborn sessions- this little miss was just so precious- she made it even more amazing.

Enjoy these beautiful images of this sweet little cowgirl!

Cannon Family: Northern Utah Family Photographer

As a family photographer specializing in newborns and children, I get to meet so many amazing families and kids. Their stories and personalities are so fun, it's the best part of what I do!

The Cannons are a family I met long ago, when I was first married and life was less crazy. They lived next door, the typical nice neighbors everyone hopes for. Then one winter day, watching a scary movie a snowball suddenly hit our window, right next to where I was sitting. After jumping 10 feet, Kelley and I ran outside for a totally random snowball fight with them.

An hour later, a rice crispy snowman showed up, doorbell-ditch style on our porch.

Thus began a long and hilarious contest of doorbell-ditching pranks that may have ended in my husband and his friends relocating their six foot tall snowman from their front yard to directly in front of their front door.

They had to use the backdoor for a while until he melted a bit :)

Anyway, I adore this family. I was so thankful they made time for me and a session while I was down south in Utah County. Also, they are so beautiful!

I mean, just WOW!

Baby Mara: Logan, Utah Newborn Photographer

Newborns are tiny. Their little features, and soft fine hair, everything about them is tiny.

Little Mara was no exception. This little girl was so tired for her session, she slept right through her outfit change and we started out posing her in a bucket!

I never start out this way, because babies so often are awake when we first start their session. Baby Mara's mommy had prepared her well, feeding her extra, and giving her plenty of wake-time all morning (there were so many great things this mommy did to prepare for her newborn session)

Mara was so easy to mold and so content to snooze her session away, so it wasn't until little baby Mara totally didn't fit into an outfit we'd picked out that I asked how big she was at birth. She was over 9 lbs! Way to go mama! This just made everything about her new baby back rolls so cute!

Best of all was the sibling-love Mara saw at her session. She actually grinned big when big brother went to give her kisses- melt my heart! Her big sister was so amazing in front of the camera, and loved her little sis so much!

This family was beautiful, and little Mara rocked her newborn session!
